Chittenango -- It didn't take long for defending champion Fabius Pompey to take to maintain its two goal lead, just 32 seconds in fact. That short stretch propelled the Falcons to a 3-1 victory over West Canada Valley in the Class C sectional title game.

"I am just so excited for the kids and for the program," said smiling Fabius-Pompey coach Matt Neuner. "This is just a great feeling to repeat as sectional champs."

The Falcons (17-1-1) held a 1-0 lead at halftime on a goal by Conor Larkin, his fourth of the season.

The lead increased to 2-0 at the 21:01 mark when Brad Cleland scored off a pass from Billy Heseldan at the 21:01 mark. It was Cleland's fourth goal of the year.

West Canada Valley (10-5-1) finally penetrated the Falcon defense when Jake Gorinshek scored at the 16:55 mark.

"We were in the wrong position to clear the ball and they took advantage of it," said Neuner.

But it didn't take long for the Falcons to regain their two goal cushion. Just 32 seconds later the Falcons Stewart Wright scored to help his team regain their two goal lead.

"We have been practicing our two minute drill all season long," said Neuner. "Its where you look to score in the first two minutes of the game, or two before and after a half or, in this case, two minutes after your opponent scores, trying to catch them in a lull."

That was the case in the Wright goal, his 19th of the season. Wright was assisted by Billy Heseldan.

The Falcons advance to the regions. Check back for details late in the week.
